Breakdowns to Breakthroughs: How we expanded the impact of a mocktail business through community

Keeping the faith, by growing.

The pandemic affected everyone in different ways back in 2020. I had taken the initiative and figured out a few ways I could help people in the community that was deeply affected by the COVID surge. 
I decided to check up on different small businesses. Some I knew, some I didn’t know to see how they were doing. I discovered that together with some of the businesses we could put our products together- Brooklyn Brewed Sorrel as the drink paired with their food and help feed our community.
I collaborated with a local restaurant, set up my website to take names and contact info of people in need, and in the 1st week of this endeavor collected 70+ contacts. We teamed up to mail packages, and we were able to collect the names of the people that needed help through a form on a website.
I also had my car back then, so I was able to deliver the food and drinks that were donated. My car helped me reach and visit 10 homes in 4 hours in Brooklyn. My heart was full as I was able to help many and got to meet the community at the same time. 
Two days later, people came knocking at my door. The car that I have been using has been involved in a three-car accident. Two cars spun off and hit my car badly. It was a total wreck and I wasn’t able to use or even restore my car.
But I kept my faith...

My car was something valuable to me, as I used it to deliver my products from Brooklyn Brewed Sorrel.

But that did not stop me, losing my car was a blessing in disguise, because of this I was able to hire my drivers to deliver my products. I realized that we were able to increase the working capacity to help serve more people.

We were able to send out all our orders that were donated through our BUY-GIVE program in Brooklyn Brewed Sorrel.

This challenge was truly a blessing for me. I was able to use Brooklyn Brewed Sorrel and myself as an instrument to help those who were affected by the COVID surge.

I was also given the opportunity to increase my working capacity. I was able to serve the community at a higher level.

As we’re growing and times have changed once again post-COVID we need to rise to the occasion of new challenges. During COVID we made a fast pivot that allowed us to continue to stand the test of time like our over 400-year recipe. Post-COVID has brought new realities too like inflation spikes and wholesale/ retail demands. We must move up to remain a viable business (hint: increase production to keep costs and our price to you in balance and beat the large inflation spikes + increase our distribution).
