Its about expanding! About our 2023 Campaign

It’s not about escaping, it’s about expanding. And that is what Brooklyn Brewed Sorrel and this campaign is all about.

Growing up I wasn’t really proud of where I came from. East Flatbush, Brooklyn. There were no stories of great people or things that came from or even happened there. All I knew was what was apparent- that many Caribbean people had moved to East Flatbush from their home Islands to chart a new path for themselves and for not necessarily a better life but a different life. Because honestly the Caribbean is small, sometimes poverty stricken but yet so naturally beautiful and peaceful. So like Harry Belafonte sang in Jamaica Farewell, a song that my folks played often at home, in the mid 70’s my parents' generation were on their way to America with fond memories of the Caribbean. And like many making the trip they settled into East Flatbush, now lovingly called Little Caribbean.

My parents and their parents had ideas around the American dream that many of us still have  today but you’ll almost never hear people from the Caribbean tell stories of wanting to escape but what they will tell you is essentially the story of wanting to expand. Like Rihanna said “I was just a small island girl with big dreams'. That’s how so many people felt and even how I felt growing up in what became known as Little Caribbean. Our spirits let us know that there’s so much more out there, we’d just need to be willing to use my imagination and confidently go for it!
As an adult, once I discovered more about my roots particularly through the advent of Brooklyn Brewed Sorrel, a embrace my cultural legacy and use it as a contribution my fellow American citizens I grew in confidence and love for the opportunities my unique identities as Caribbean-American and Muslim brought.
And I'm excited about the ways I get to be continuously used to serve and inspire our people, American people as well as particularly uplift Black people of the African diaspora who for many, previous to learning about and enjoying Brooklyn Brewed Sorrel were cut off from the legacy of foods and drink that connect our diaspora from Africa, to the Caribbean to USA.

"I ordered a large bottle just to give it a try. Needless to say, it was gone in a matter of days... and I didn't share with anyone! I placed another order, this time for several bottles so now I don't have to worry about running out. Love it!
