Such a vulnerable share!

Jada Pinkett-Smith took some time to sit at the Red Table and tell us about her journey towards an alcohol-free lifestyle.

For anyone who watches Red Table Talks as I do, we've really been seeing a different side of Jada since it aired- a fuller, more vulnerable expression. We've met her momma, Gammy (so down-to-earth-grown), see more of Willow (look how beautifully she's grown up!), and gotten a behind-the-scenes look at all of their lives while discussing topics that touch many of us. Recently they discussed women and alcohol abuse.

In a world where alcohol is so romanticized and having a glass of wine is spoken about like it's akin to getting a spa massage, it's truly about time we kill that noise and say loud and clear that wine is not that innocent. It's addictive, poisonous, and harmful. Definitely not self-care. Jada broke it down when she said:

"Once I was going for that third bottle of wine, I said, 'you've got a problem,' and it was cold turkey that day. That day I just stopped,"

Realizing that she'd become too tolerant of alcohol, Jada began her journey to over 20 years of Sobriety with both alcohol and drugs. With the support from family and friends, and with her determination, she was able to reclaim her life before alcohol and drug abuse claimed her. Such a queen to open up about her flaws and show that it's possible to bounce back from these addictions and be sober.

I think the world needs more shows like this. Shows that empower every individual who goes through different health challenges. Do you agree?

FACT CHECK: Did you know that recent studies say that women these days abuse alcohol more than men? A 2019 study also state that women in their teens to their 20's have a higher alcohol abuse rate than men at the same age.
